I did not carry my new daughter in my womb...I carried her in my heart.

July 12th

We started the day with a walk and then breakfast. Kaylee slept for 12 hours last night due to not getting a nap the day before. After breakfast we went to “Sherry’s Place” to get a stroller for Kaylee. They, along with some other shops, supply this to adoptive families free of charge. We then went to “Jenny’s Place” (the outside actually sign says “Art 64”) and bought a ton of things from her. Jenny and her staff are VERY nice and I highly recommend her shop to any adoptive families traveling to Guangzhou. Her shop is on the Island.

Afterwards we dropped off our packages at the hotel and walked down to the get Kaylee’s Medical examination. She didn’t like this and cried when they weighed and measured her. I was soooooooooo happy when she reached her arms up to me to be rescued! I came down to her level and comforted her until they were done. The little girl has had 2 operations so far and it’s totally reasonable for her to be scared with nurses and doctors.

Then we were off to the eyeglass market. Keith and I both got 2 pair of glasses for each of us. The frames and glasses cost right around $50.00 each and are very high quality. I can see again…..Yippee!! It took only 2 hours for them to make them. (It took 2 weeks for Wal-Mart back home)

We went to the pearl and jade market after that. Kaylee took a good 2-hour nap while we were there. We saw a woman carrying a sleeping child with a shirt but bare bottomed, you certainly wouldn’t see that in America! Keith and I were talking about how perfect our daughter is in every way on the taxi ride back to the hotel. We prayed in the beginning that God would give us a child that would be fitting for us but we never expected in a million years that we would have this little angel. She is very laid back, happy all the time, always laughing and smiling and she is VERY clean. She likes her mouth and hands to be cleaned and seems to be very organized.

She likes to look at herself in mirrors and she LOVES jewelry! Her bracelets stay on her at all times, they come off occasionally when she sleeps. We simply love this child; she has stolen our hearts forever.

(Note from Keith.) Many choices for food available at the local restaurants. Including: Crocodile Claw, little suckling pig, chicken with head, stuffed goose bowels, fish head soup, pig jaw. I had the short ribs.
A bus almost hit our taxi today. It came within an inch. The driver started yelling something? Our guide later said he was cursing, lol. Of course that has been about a daily occurrence between us and the bikes and motorcycles. I’m just amazed there are not more accidents. We seem to have gotten the perfect child. She sits in the stroller for hours as we shop around. She just sits and smiles and giggles.
Alyssa, you are going to just love her and we love you and think of you everyday!
Love to all, Keith & Darlene.
